Best Antenna Wire I Have Used So Far
My 80m Delta loop wire was looking rather shabby, as I had built it out of 14AWG THHN from Lowes. The wire had been up for about 5 years and was in need of replacement due to outside exposure. While building my DX Commander, I had around 300 foot of wire that is shipped with the antenna left over. So I decided why not try this left over wire from my DX Commander build. I have been very pleased with the results. In terms of just weight, this wire is very light. In terms of functionality of putting signal out, I have actually got reports from hams who I have talked with for years on the old wire, that my signal is noticeably better. Now is that a result of the wire design or just the fact it is new wire, I am not sure.
The wire is called DX10 and is a Kevlar based wire that has very little memory to it. You can pick up a 328 feet (100m) roll for $63 plus shipping from Callum’s Dx Commander shop by clicking here. A roll of 500 foot roll of 14 AWG stranded THHN from Lowes will run you about $85. However THHN was not meant for outside exposure and does have memory to it. 4th Annual Kentucky State Parks On The Air (KYPOTA) Event Is August 12 2023 (Repeat Item)
The Murray State University Amateur Radio Club will once again host the Kentucky POTA Event. This is a fun event that enourages amateur radio operators to visit the many POTA approved parks in their area to operate. This event is a little different than a normal POTA activation so be sure to read through the posted rules, park identifiers and desired exchange which can be found here. I encourage you to read through the log section as well.
The Letcher County Amateur Radio Club will be operating from Carr Fork Lake at the Willow Shelter on Highway 160. All licensed amateur radio operators and the general public are welcomed to attend. We will be operating under the club call sign of KM4IAL. This is an excellent opportunity for those licensed at the Technician level to operate on the lower bands and for those not licensed at all to work on the airwaves under our supervision.
